The Near North District School Board has launched its new hashtag #NearNorthUnited designed for use when posting about its schools.

Student Senate was engaged by Director of Education Jackie Young to develop a new motto or hashtag for the Near North District School Board.

“Senate saw this as another valuable means to improve the student’s voice and allow for a universal connection between everyone across the district, even when they are separated by geography,” says a Board release.

Each school Senator went back to their school and collected suggestions for an official hashtag. Once Student Senate had suggestions from their fellow students, they voted on which hashtag they liked the best.

Student Senate is comprised of one student representative from each student council from all seven Near North District School Board secondary schools.  Each member is responsible for acting as a liaison between their own schools’ student council and the board-wide Student Senate about educational issues of interest and concern to students.

The Near North District School Board encompasses the Districts of Nipissing and Parry Sound and currently operates 28 elementary schools, seven secondary schools, an Adult and Continuing Education Centre as well as two Alternative Schools within its jurisdiction
